surprise when GPS is activated! Fortunately, to buy a smartphone you don't have to buy a Toyota
On July 3, 2025, I received my Toyota Yaris cross 116 HP Design cargo pack finish at the Bourgoin-Jallieu dealership.
During the start-up when it was necessary to check the operation of the navigation system which is included in the price of the car, I was told that I needed a smartphone with the MyToyota application installed.
I find this scandalous.
So:
1. Either the people at the dealership are not competent to start the navigation system without using a smartphone, which I doubt given that the person who started the car for me called Toyota assistance who confirmed that a smartphone is required
2. In which case, either the smartphone and its subscription are provided by Toyota
3. Either it is indicated when ordering: smartphone required
4. Either it is an option that you only take if you have a smartphone and are informed that a smartphone is necessary to activate this option
That said, someone who owns a smartphone will probably use Android Auto, and the GPS of their choice which will be updated for free in the case of Google-maps or Waze or Magic-earth. So he will have paid for an option which is of no use to him and which is imposed in the price of the car, whereas a few years ago this option was billed separately depending on the customer's choice to take it or not.
To consider that everyone has a smartphone is to neglect a good portion of those over 60 who only have a simple GSM phone and already have difficulty using it.
So to conclude, I would have liked to have been informed when ordering that a smartphone is required to use the TOYOTA navigation system. In which case I probably wouldn't have bought this car. I'm not even talking about being tracked throughout my movements, something that no one talks about when ordering!
Furthermore, I would like to take advantage of this letter to inform you that in the navigation system, the display of distances is in miles and in yards for the scale, although the system is configured in French!
I managed to put the display in Km using a manipulation that I defy anyone to find in the manual.

To be able to activate GPS you must accept the conditions.
Race results, all trips are recorded on Toyota servers.
Of course Toyota promises confidentiality, except upon court order. It feels like the USA.
Moreover, nowadays, claiming that a server will never be hacked is a lie.
So driving a Toyota means saying goodbye to your private life!
Safety devices and driving assistance
On this point it's perfect. On the other hand, don't count on the instructions given with the car to master everything.

These are PDFs, I put them on my smartphone and I stored the Toyota documentation at home, it makes room in the storage compartment which is not very big

Cocotrail ordered their Toyota Yaris in France on 11/04/2025. At the time of their order, the initially announced delivery date was 03/07/2025, which was an initial delivery time of 3 months. In the end, Cocotrail took possession of the vehicle on 03/07/2025, which resulted in a waiting time of 3 months.
